Paper II Topic

For my practical proposal paper I choose to write about Houston’s public transportation. To be more specific how Houston’s public transportation needs to be more efficient. As a student here, at the University of Houston, with no car it is very difficult to get items you need at a store. You feel trapped and aggravated because you have to depend on other people to get things you need. I felt that this would be an issue that many students and citizens of Houston may find interesting and helpful.
Public transportation in Houston is a problem because it is not efficient. To get a taxi in Houston is expensive and the bus route takes too long. Houston is one of the largest cities on America and it is made driver friendly. This is a major problem for those who live in Houston and do not have a vehicle. Out of those the group that feels it the most would be those college students who have no family and any type of contact in Texas. If this problem is not fixed, thousands of people will continue to be discouraged about this because there is not much that we can really do to force the government to better the system. For example, my friend is from another country and she does not have a car. He badly needed to go to Target to get some “female personal items”. She did not have enough money to get a taxi and she did not want to ride on a bus by herself with the bags in her hands. If this system doesn’t get better, there is really nothing that she feels like she can do. The mayor of Houston has the power to propose the creation of a better public transportation system. Currently the city of Houston is making strides in trying to complete its light rail system. But we don’t know how well it will work until it is finished.

The Paper, Newspaper

In the Houston Press nothing on that site interested me. The site was very busy and nothing really popped out. In both the Daily Cougar and the Houston Chronicle I found articles about the Houston Cougar football team. The Daily Cougar had an article, “UH: C-USA’s No. 1 Target”, which was about how the Cougar football team still has a chance to win the conference championship even though they have one conference loss. In the Houston Chronicle, the article “Coogs enjoy cramping opponents' style” talks about how Houston’s playing style is so different from other schools that they cannot keep up. These stories interested me because it is concerning my school and also I love football.
If I were to choose one of these it would be “Coogs enjoy cramping opponents' style”. The research question would be, what would a team have to do to slow down Houston’s supercharged offense? For research I would talk to the football coaches to find out exactly how the schemes work. I could try the scheme in a video game and try to stop it. ESPN.com could be a very great source for information and facts. The information I would need is the offensive statistics’ for Houston, also Houston’s active roster. Different defenses would be needed so you can match the up. Total team stats for other top teams in the NCAA.
